The Sydney University rowing members of the 2007 Australian U23 Team flew out of Kingsford Airport, Sydney last Saturday with their immediate destination Zurich, the final day of the World cup at Lucerne and then down to Varese in northern Italy a a further week of final training before heading to Scotland for the Championships. The boys from the U23 men’s eight were joined by Sydney Uni rowers who had been training interstate, Renee Kirby and Charlotte Walters in the women’s quad in Melbourne and Cam Girdlestone in the men’s lightweight four in Tassie. Also joining this group of the team were Manager Mick Smith and coach of the women’s quad, Brenton Terrell.
SUBC Coach , Phil Bourguignon seemed relaxed and happy that the time for racing is approaching. Assistant Coach , Mark Prater was nursing a very bad cold and was in danger if being relegated to a section of the plane where he could not infect team members.
Parents ( many of whom will travel to Glasgow) siblings and frinds were on hand to farewell the team.
Many parents will make the trip to Glasgow to watch the World U23 Championships which start on 26th July.
