TOOWONG ROWING CLUB WINS INUAGURAL POINT SCORE AT 2015 AUSTRALIAN ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sydney University Boat Club congratulates Toowong Rowing Club on a superb overall effort in winning the Inaugural Club Championship at the 2015 Australian Rowing Championships. This point score system based on scores from individual rowers winning points for placings is a much better reflection of the true status of each club’s contribution in excellence to our national championships and to the development of the high end performance of our sport. Congratulations to Sydney Rowing Club – claiming top spot for NSW clubs and Mercantile for taking the top position for Victorian clubs. Swan River was the best club from WA, Adelaide Rowing club took the honours for SA, Huon Rowing Club for Tasmania and Canberra Rowing Club taking out the ACT crown.

In schools Geelong Grammar with 40 points led the way with St Margaret’s Qld in second and St Joseph’s Nudgee Qld in third.

The point score system seeks to balance excellence and at the same time reward to some extent numbers in high level development and is a much better indicator of overall performance than the previous system which counted medals for all clubs in composite crews equally

Thanks to the boffin(s) at Rowing Australia who figured all this out so quickly after the event.
