SUBC Statement On 2007-8 Premiership

Today 8th August saw an official announcement by NSW Rowing of corrections to the NSW Rowing 2007-98 Season Awards. Following a review it has been announced that Sydney University Rowing has won the overall 2007-8 Premiership and the Men?s and Women?s Elite Shields ( in addition to the previously announced Men?s and Women?s Senior Shields and the NSWRA State Championship Honours Trophy.

The review was conducted by NSW Rowing following concerns expressed by our club after the Presentation Dinner in May.

At that time we were rather mystified that Sydney Uni Rowing had not been awarded the Men?s and Women?s Elite Shields. We did not realize that a review of the points calculations would also see a change in the Premiership announcement for 2007-8.

For our club the ?official announcement? is both bitter and sweet.

In 2007-8 our athletes and coaches put a major effort in attempting to win these Shields and the Premiership. In fact some of our developing athletes raced more than we would usually consider prudent. Naturally we are thrilled that the results achieved have now been properly recognized.

At the same time there are natural regrets. We regret that our coaches and athletes were not correctly recognized on the night of the Presentation Dinner.

We also regret that the necessary review has put other clubs who were recognized on the night and the state Association in an embarrassing position. Nevertheless the club is now pleased that this matter has been resolved and all that remains is to find a suitable time and date to celebrate!
