It started with a couple of schoolboys wanting to train through the winter of 2015. Marcus Britt and Ollie Schwartz joined the SUBC winter program and after a couple of months headed off to Brisbane in a ‘schoolboy” eight to compete alongside our uni development crew in the Trans-Tasman Challenge and the Brisbane River Challenge. Following that Marcus ( who’s dad Rob is a former SUBC Captain) and Ollie did a lot of work in a pair and after January camp this year got together with Jack O’Brien and Lochie Miles in a four with the objective of trying for selection for the Australian Junior Team.
Under the supervision of Sarah Cook and ably assisted by SUBC Coach Dustyn Butler the four was able to win the national U19 Coxless Four championship and finish first and third in the U19 pairs.
At the selection trials the crew won the Junior Coxless Four convincingly and finished 1st and 2nd in the pair. Following these results they were asked to trial for the qualifying time in the Junior Coxed Four. The crew achieved this on the Sunday and have been selected to represent Australia in the World Junior Rowing Championships in Rotterdam 22-28 August.
The crew is: Marcus Britt, Oliver Schwartz, Jack O’Brien, Lachlan Miles. Cox Lewis Willoughby.
Coach is Sarah Cook.
