New Head Coach Appointed

Sydney University Boat Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Marty Rabjohns as our new Head Coach. A former New South Wales coxswain of the year in 1998 Marty has had extensive experience managing crews in training and racing and has added to his experience from the coxen?s seat with coaching at Canberra Grammar, Drummoyne Rowing Club, The Kings School and Sydney University over the past four years.

This year Marty steered a number of winning SUBC crews at the National Championships in Tasmania and followed this as coach of a successful campaign to the World Junior Championships in Athens where his SUBC based crew won gold in the Coxed Four event.

Marty has a degree in Applied Science and for the past two years has worked as a teacher at the King?s School in Sydney where he has been able to pursue a career in teaching and at the same time his love of the sport of rowing.

Marty will take over management of the program over the next month from Joe Rodrigues and assume his duties on a full-time basis from 13th October.

Joe Rodrigues will leave for Queensland and the head Coach position at University of Queensland Boat Club after the 2003 Intervarsity Rowing in early October.

The Committee of SUBC and Sydney University Sport would like to take the occasion of this announcement to thank Joe Rodrigues for his dedication and hard work over the past three and a half years and wish him well in his new position.
