Junior Quad Readies For Henley

SUBC have entered a quad scull in the Fawley Challenge Cup event at this year’s Royal Henley Regatta. The crew comprises three members of this year’s GPS Head of the River winning 1st Eight from The Shore School: James Anderson, Michael Bryson and Alex Dowd, and the stroke of the St Josephs College 1st Eight, Cade Turland, who the previous week had stroked his crew to the National Schoolboy Eight title. They are coached by the Shore 1st Eight Coach, Nick Lloyd. They have adapted very easily to rowing in a quad scull and trained very well together. They are thus confident of putting up a good show at Henley.

There is a qualification time trial on Friday 24th June. Round 1 of official racing for the sixteen qualifiers is on Friday 1st July. Round 2 and the semi-final are on Saturday 2nd July and the final is on Sunday 3rd July.

The crew has also been entered in the Reading Town Regatta on Saturday 25th June. The races are only 800m, but will provide a great opportunity to get some much needed competition in the run-up to Henley.

Race results can be viewed at:

In addition to this crew the Sydney University Women’s Rowing Club’s Coach, Alan Bennet, has left with a Junior Double and Women’s pair to contest Women’s Henley which starts next week.
