DAVID BARTHOLOT WINS RNSW NOVICE OF THE YEAR

Sydney Uni Boat Club’s David Bartholot has won the 2015-2016 season “Novice Rower of the Year” Award presented annually by Rowing New South Wales.

David was given the award for his outstanding progression in his first season since joining SUBC in March 2016.

David was studying Engineering at Wollongong University in 2014 but an interest in the sport of rowing led him to gain excellent grades and he was able to transfer his degree to Sydney University for the 2015 year. David is studying for a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil).

While David had already shown talent in a number of sports through school a special kind of determination is required to master the coordination of rowing and the ability to apply oneself to the tough and continuous training. David has demonstrated that in his first full season.

David competed at the Australian University Rowing Championships in Adelaide in September last year coming 2nd in the Single Scull Championship and 3rd in the Double Sculls.

David was the reserve for the SUBBC men’s eight at the 2015 Australian Boat Race. In the NSW State Championships this year David was 7th in the Double Sculls and 3rd in the Quad Sculls and a month later in the Australian Championships David (and Jake Bicknell) achieved a 5th place in the U23 double sculls A Final.

Congratulations David on winning this award and looking forward to more progress in the coming season.
