Buckland Sets Sights On Kings Cup

Former US National Team rower and Harvard Graduate Brodie Buckland is nominating for selection in the NSW Kings Cup eight for 2011. Brodie, a graduate of Harvard arrived in Australia in 2008 and having joined SUBC that year has fulfilled his residency requirements for Interstate competition.

The NSW eight is chasing four wins in a row at Westlakes, Adelaide next March and with dominant wins in the event in 2009 and 2010 gaining a seat in this boat will be difficult. NSW has not chalked up “four in row” since the 1977 crew won on the Canning River in Perth.

Buckland has Australian residency and this year rowed in the Australian eight that grabbed silver in the Lucern World Cup with a withering finish.

Following this significant performance by the Aussie eight Brodie is also hopeful that his application for Australian citizenship will be advanced under the “talented athlete” provisions of the Citizenship Act.

Our photo shows Brodie competing with Terrence Alfred in the pairs at Henley 2009 where they made the semi finals.
