BOAT CLUB DEVELOPMENT TEAM HEAD TO 2014 CANADIAN HENLEY


The Boat Club is sending a team to 2014 Canadian Henley. The team – an U23 eight with sculling reserve and two coaches will fly from Sydney this Sunday, 20h July, The team is mostly first year students and will contest a number of events at the Ontario Rowing Championships and Canadian Henley.

The main objective at Henley will be the U23 Eight.

The crew will rain mainly in London, Ontario at the National Training Centre and stay at the University of Western Ontario. The team will travel to Welland Canal on 26-27th July for the Ontario Rowing Championships and to St Catherine’s 3-10th August for Henley.

Head Coach for the tour Rick van Hooydonk took a development crew in 2012 to this event and finished 2nd in the Championship Eights. Rick will be assisted on this tour by SUBC’s national Junior and U23 rower Tom Sacre – in the role of assistant coach.

The team members are: Jake Bicknell, Tom Whitehead, James Davies, Dan Whitehead, Campbell Watts, Jack Cook, Nil Belonogoff and Alex Purnell. Sculler and reserve is Peter Koster and cox id Franc Gourlas.

The team returns to Sydney on 13th August.

Last Sunday 6th July the Boat Club and parents arranged a Canadian Henley Garden Party which raised a large amount of the funds needed for this tour,
