Australian Lightweight Coxless Four

SUBC and AIS athlete Tim OCallaghan has realised a long standing ambition by being selected in the Australian Lightweight Four for the 2003 World Championships. After good success in the early trials Tims quest for selection took a wrong turn when his pair partner Karl Parker was ruled out of the last Selection Regatta on medical grounds. On only a few days notice Tim teamed up with George Jelbart of Melbourne University and continued to produce excellent results.

Then just two weeks ago Tim won three National Championships in the Lightweight Pair , Four and Quad.

This boat is considered the Blue Ribbon crew in Lightweight and is in the Olympic program. Competition is very strong internationally. If Tim can continue his form he will have an strong chance for selection in the 2004 Olympic team.

Tim is our first Senior A Mens selection since Michael Wiseman in 1997-99 and will move to Tasmania to train with the crew and Coach Sam Lecompte.

Tim has previously represented Australia four times in the Senior B (U23) Lightweight four winning silver and bronze medals.

I’m sure members and alumni will join the Committee of SUBC in congratulating Tim. You can contact him.
