This year 8 members of Sydney University Boat Club represented New South Wales in the Men?s Youth Cup Team. The Men?s Team Coached by Nick Lloyd from Shore School and Mark Beer from Mosman rowing club, came together quiet well for the Adelaide Tour. The first day of racing consisted of 2 Single Scull events, 2 Coxless Pair events and a Lightweight double Scull event. Highlights from this day included SUBCs Will Chambers coming 2nd by 0.5 of a second in the single, SUBC?s Will Townsend placing 2nd in the Lightweight double and solid performances by the SUBC pairs (Allsop/Boyce & Hammond/Alfred) also Miles Foran performing well in the Single.
The second day put good times on the board but no such luck with results! The quad recording a 5:56 for its heat (the fastest time for the whole regatta) but suffered from a breakage 800 meters into the final, and the coxless four recording the second fastest time for the fours event however were unlucky to make the A-Final after a New Zealand crew took the curtesy of crashing into them.
The final day of the Regatta saw the blue ribbon event, the eights! New South Wales easily won the Heat and were confident of winning the final! However a strong Western Australian Crew managed to out rate and race the New South Wales Crew. The Final Result Western Australia 1st, 1.6 seconds back to New South Wales?
