Ross Selman, a successful rower at SUBC in the late 40’s and early 50’s passed away in 2021. Due to lockdowns, we were not able to remember him at that time but his family now invite all who knew a remember Ross to come along on 3rd September.

Ross rowed at SUBC winning the King’s Cup for New South Wales in 1949 and 1951 and rowing in the Commonwealth Games Eight that had a thrilling win by one foot over New Zealand at Lake Karapiro.

Ross spent many years after his career coaching and umpiring, contributing back to rowing.

The function will take place at the Sydney University Boat Club's clubhouse, Linley Lane (off Burns Bay Road, heading south), Linley Point at 2pm on Saturday the 3rd of September.

Drinks and light snacks will be served. Please feel free to wear your favourite sports blazer.

The article’s mention that Ross’s mentorship impacted over fifty students directly demonstrates how individual influence shapes collective learning outcomes. Recognising and reflecting on such mentorship is analogous to scaffolding student growth in formal educational environments. This emphasis aligns with the learner centred support maintained by New Assignment Help Australia which stresses structured guidance and comprehension. I appreciated how the article balanced personal narrative with observable impact. It made me reflect on how structured mentorship could be embedded in university curricula to strengthen professional development. I am curious whether capturing mentorship data formally could influence pedagogical strategies and help quantify the qualitative benefits of mentorship in both classroom and professional learning contexts.
