Australian Junior Selection Regatta

Sydney University Boat Club for the first time ever will be sending four athletes and a Cox to the National Junior Selection Regatta, to be held from the 7th May to 9th May at Sydney International Regatta Centre. The crew has only just been finalised today (5/4/03), after ergo trials and seat racing at Penrith. During the past week seven athletes from various GPS school trialed for the seats in the SUBC Junior four, which aim to be selected next month as the Australian Junior Four. Angus Campbell (as pictured) from St Ignatius College won the 2000m ergo trial in a time of 6.13, closely followed by St Ignatius Old Boy, Rupert Sheridan. Today the guy?s seat raced in a coxed four, racing over a distance of 1500m, to finalise the crew and seating within the crew.

After seven races the crew was finalised as following: Harry Horwitz-Rouke (TKS), Angus Campbell (SIC), Rupert Sheridan (SUBC), Alex Cary (TKS), Bert Williams (TKS) as the Cox and Marty Rabjohns coaching. The crew commences training at Linley Point on Monday morning and with only four weeks remaining until selection; the guys will be working hard towards perfection!

Within the club the crew has two excellent role models in Matt Ryan and Ian Allsop, who both represented Australian in the Junior Coxed Four last year, the crew winning a Gold Medal at the World Junior Championships. With this result fresh in the crews mind, they will be aiming to replicate a similar result.

Good luck guys with your preparation, we look forward to seeing you racing in the Blue and Gold at the junior selection trials in May.
