The Australian Boat Race Returns to Sydney October 25th

The rivalry returns to the Lane Cove River as the Australian Boat Race takes place next Sunday, 25 October 2026, with Sydney University and Melbourne University set to go head-to-head in one of Australian university rowing’s premier events.
Returning to Sydney, the regatta will bring together university athletes, college crews and school rowers for a full morning of racing, celebrating the depth and future of Australian rowing.
The program will feature the headline men’s and women’s eight races, alongside college races and schoolgirl and schoolboy races, showcasing athletes across multiple levels of competition. With university pride on the line, the day promises plenty of exciting racing and another chapter in the longstanding rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne.
Racing will take place along the iconic Lane Cove River course, from Greenwich Wharf to the eastern end of Figtree Bridge, providing spectators with the opportunity to watch the crews compete against the backdrop of Sydney’s beautiful waterways.
The Australian Boat Race is a highlight of the university rowing calendar, bringing together current athletes, alumni, supporters and the wider rowing community to celebrate the sport and the traditions that make this event so special.
Where to Watch
Spectators can catch the action from several locations along the course, including Longueville Point and the eastern walkway of Figtree Bridge. Racing will also be livestreamed on the Rowing NSW YouTube channel, with coverage available on screens at the Sydney University Boat Club boatshed.
Following racing, supporters are invited to join Sydney University Boat Club at the boatshed for post-race celebrations from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, with refreshments, food and an opportunity to come together to celebrate the crews and the occasion. Registration is required to attend the post-race celebrations.
With university pride on the line and school and college crews joining the program, all eyes turn to the Lane Cove River next Sunday.
