Six Gold Medals for SUBC at Australian University Championships
Sydney University Boat Club (SUBC) enjoyed an outstanding week of racing at the 2026 Australian University Championships in Perth last week, with crews delivering six gold medals alongside a host of silver and bronze medal performances.
From dominant performances in the sweep events to strong racing across the sculling and mixed categories, the Lions produced an impressive series of results across the championship finals.

Six Championship Titles
SUBC crews claimed six gold medals across the regatta, with success in both the men’s and women’s events.
In the men’s competition, Stambolie and Cullen combined to win gold in both the men’s double and pair. The duo also contributed to the gold-medal-winning men’s eight, alongside Basha, Pepper, Garnett, Sallabank, Fleet and Atterton, with Tayeb in the coxswain’s seat.
The men’s four of Basha, Pepper, Garnett and Sallabank, coxed by Tayeb, also secured gold, capping off a successful campaign for the men’s sweep crews.
The women’s crews matched that success, with O’Brien and Fikkers taking gold in the women’s pair. Stigter, Macready, O’Brien and Fikkers, coxed by Jureta, claimed the women’s four title, before the same core group contributed to another gold medal in the open eight. Joined by Morris, Fleet, Atterton and Stambolie, and coxed by Jureta, the crew delivered a strong performance to finish on top.
A Host of Podium Finishes
Beyond the six gold medals, SUBC crews continued to feature prominently across the finals, adding three silver medals and four bronze medals to the club’s tally.
In the men’s events, Cullen, Fleet, Atterton and Stambolie, coxed by Jureta, earned silver in the men’s four. Basha and Sallabank secured bronze in the men’s pair, while Atterton claimed bronze in the men’s single scull.
The women’s scullers also enjoyed a successful regatta. Fikkers won bronze in the women’s single, while Fikkers and Macready claimed silver in the women’s double. O’Brien and Stigter added another bronze medal in the same event.
The mixed four of Fikkers, O’Brien, Garnett and Sallabank, coxed by Tayeb, rounded out the silver-medal performances.
There were also several strong results just outside the podium. Morris and Pepper finished fifth in the men’s double, while Macready placed fourth in the women’s single and, alongside Stigter, finished fourth in the women’s pair. The mixed four of Stigter, Macready, Pepper and Basha, coxed by Jureta, also recorded a fourth-place finish.
Garnett finished seventh in the men’s single, while Jureta placed seventh in the lightweight women’s single.
A Strong Week for the Lions
The results reflect the hard work, commitment and preparation of SUBC’s athletes and coaches throughout the season. With crews performing across a wide range of events and athletes contributing to multiple successful boats, the championships provided an excellent showcase of the depth and talent within the club.
Congratulations to all our athletes, coaches and support staff on a fantastic week of racing in Perth.
