Sydney Uni Double at Gold Cup

Looking for more racing experience legendary ( he made me say that) cox Toby Lister made the journey up to Sydney to cox the SUBC Men’s Eight at the Riverview Gold Cup. The crew won their heat and semi-finals comfortably and joined Sydney Rowing Club, Shore School and St Ignatius in the Gold Cup Final.

The tide had turned inward about 90 mins before the final so the rough conditions that had prevailed earlier when the tide and wind were opposed had moderated.

In the final Sydney Rowing Club went out hard but within 500 metres it was clear that the uni crew were moving well in front.

The crew turned at the pile with a 1.5 length lead and went to the line two lengths clear of Sydney winning by 6 seconds with Shore third 2 seconds behind Sydney and Riverview only 0.5 secs back from Shore.

For the men’s eight this was the sixth win in the last eight years and for cox Lister this was his fifth Gold Oar.

The crew won their heat and in the final were untroubled to win by over 7 seconds from Loreto Kirribilli.

In the Invitation Sculls the men’s event was won by Nick Hudson and the women’s event by Charlotte Walters.
