17 SUBC Athletes Invited to Olympic Trials

A remarkable seventeen athletes (fourteen from SUBC and three from other clubs who train in the SUBC program have been invited to the 2021 Olympic Trials.


2021 Olympic Trials will be held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre for a week starting on 26th February.



Following her spectacular victory in the Women’s Elite Scull at the recent NSW Championships Tara Rigney leads a contingent of eight athletes from our club program. Also invited are Will O’Shannessy and Jackson Kench (Sydney RC) who earned a spot after a good performance in the December time trial and a very close fifth in the A final of the men’s elite pairs at the NSW Championships.


Kate Rowan, also from our club group gained an invitation to the women’s sculling group. Hamish Parry ( Toowong), who has trained at SUBC over the last two seasons was invited in the lightweight men’s sculling group along with Sean Murphy (Mosman) who trains with Hamish in the lightweight double. Hamish and Sean finished first and second in the lightweight single sculls.


Other athletes called up from our club squad include Georgie Gotch ( Women’s sculling) and James Talbot (PR3 Para)

Another nine athletes from SUBC who currently train at the men’s and women’s National Training Centres were also invited to trails. These rowers are :


Men’s Sweep: Nick Purnell, Jack Hargreaves, Alex Purnell, and Jack O’Brien

Men’s Sculling: Cameron Girdlestone, Campbell Watts, David Bartholot

Women’s Sweep: Gen Horton

Women’s Lightweight Sculling: Lucy Coleman
