Sydney Uni Boat Club has a successful day the the 2020 Riverview Gold Cup with a double in the Gold Cups winning both the men’s and women’s event.
The women’s eight faced Sydney, UTS, Sydney Uni 2 and Pymble in what was to be a straight final. The crew was Laura Chancellor, Kelli Drenth, Dani Stuart, Lily Alton, Kate Rowan, Tara Rigney, Carina Simpson with stroke Ella Mentzines and cocswain Talia Barnet-Heples.
After a tight turn on the outside of UTS the Sydney Uni crew took a two second win over Sydney Rowing Club with UTS third.
In the men’s race the finalists were Sydney Uni, Sydney, Kings and St Ignatius. The men’s crew was from bow : Marcus Britt, Devlin Walsh, Tom Anderson, Kieran Riach, Jake Bicknell, Lachie MIles and stroke Will O’Shannessy with coxswain Dani Pettit.
With a margin of 7.43 seconds Sydney University were in front all the way recording one of their strongest victories of recent years and making our crew winners of the men’s Gold Cup 3 years in a row. Specail mention to Jake Bicknell – late replacement for an ill Leon Chambers – Jake was able to get his first gold oar.
