Following a strong season across the mens U21/23 program, SUBC is sending two eights to Henley Royal Regatta on the historic River Thames this July — and we need your help to get there.
We are taking two eights to race at Henley, one crew in the Temple Challenge Cup and one in the Princess Elizabeth.
Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup- This event was introduced in 1946, initially for public schools in the United Kingdom. It was later opened up to overseas entries and then to secondary schools. In 2023 the rules were brought into line with other junior events by allowing entries from clubs as well as schools.
Temple Challenge Cup- In search of the right formula for eights events at the Regatta an additional event was instituted in 1990 for eights of single colleges, smaller university boat clubs and schools unable to enter The Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup by reason of age. The rules have evolved to cater for the majority of student crews, but a number of important restrictions remain.
Getting 18 athletes to the UK isn't cheap. Flights, accommodation, boat transport, regatta fees — it all adds up fast for a group of uni students who've been juggling training with degrees and part-time jobs all season.
SUBC has been around for over 150 years and tours like this are a huge part of what makes this club special. This is a massive moment our the men's programs and we'd love your help to make it one to remember.
