Dear SUBC Members, Supporters, and Alumni,
I’m writing to update you on the impact of Covid-19 on the SUBC programs. Due to the continued spread of the virus, and government directives with regard to social distancing and sporting facilities, the SUBC Executive Committee has decided to close the SUBC Boathouses indefinitely for all rowing and training activities.
In addition to the closure of our boathouses, participation in all national and international tours and competitions are postponed or cancelled at this time.
We have considered advice from the state and federal government, as well FISA which is the international governing body for rowing, Rowing Australia, Rowing NSW, and Sydney University Sport and Fitness.
Please see attached the statements and advice from FISA and Rowing Australia on Covid-19 for your information.
The health and wellbeing of our rowers, staff, and community is of the upmost importance, and we encourage you all to heed the advice of the state and federal government in adhering to appropriate social distancing and hygiene measures.
We are encouraging members to continue staying connected and support one another remotely, and to continue exercising through land-based activities, in a manner that is safe and appropriate. Advice and updates for specific squads in relation to land training will come directly from your coaches or coordinators.
The SUBC Executive and coaches will review closure again in April, May and June and will assess in light of the prevailing situation and advice from governing bodies and governments.
We wish you all good health, and look forward to our programs resuming in due course. Once it is deemed safe to do so, the reopening of our facilities will be communicated by the SUBC Committee.
Kind Regards,
Sarah Cook
President, Sydney University Boat Club
Councillor, Rowing Australia
Director, Rowing NSW
