Attending a coactail party to celebrate successes by Sydney Uni women rowers were our Vice Chancellor Gavin Brown, Australian Olympic Chief, John Coates, SU Sport CEO Greg Harris, John McCarthy ( University Senate) and long serving SUWRC President Jane Spring. Guests of honour were Brooke Pratley and Liz Kell, 2006 Wolrd Champions along with Renae Kurby , 2006 U23 Golde Medallist in Woemns’s Fours and 2006 World Uni Lightweight Scull Champion Els O’Hanlon. Phil Bourguignon, SUBC Coach and National U23 Women’s Heavyweight Coach was also a guest.
Guests were entertained with stories of the campaigns of the three medal groups and a run through of the tour and racing that bought success to the rowers, their clubs and coaches.
At the end of the party there was a “surprise christening” as two boats appeared on the grass outside and Coach Alan Bennett and Lizzi Chapman were invited to pour the champagne of two new Sykes pairs acquired by the women’s club named after them.
