With 30th June arriving our Rowing Foundation was blessed with a rush of donations as Patrons and Members fulfilled their pledges and /or made new commitments to support rowing at Sydney University. It was particularly pleasing to see the support that alumni are giving coming strongly to coincide with the day at which our traditinal method of funding has been cut off by the current government.
While we await final figures this week from the SU Sport and University accounts departments is apears that in our first year of operation the Foundation has received around $320,000 in donations and another $400,000 in ongoing pledges taking our total to $750,000. Our initial target for alumni commitments was $1m with a longer term target including other sources of $2m.
The Rowing Foundation has now become a Division of the much larger University of Sydney Sports Foundation which will have Divisions for affiliated clubs plus special divisions for projects of SU Sport.
The Sydney University Soccer Football Club is looking to launch their Division in 2006 along with special Divisions for SU Sport for Scholarships and Infrastructure Developments.
